Camiel's Pick: Top 5 Videos

Well what do you know. All the sudden besides having a clothing brand, we have a blog too. And I am loving it. Like you might have read before, I used to run this online menswear magazine and did some writing about fashion for local newspapers. Basically all I did was talking about the things I liked or didnt like.

Today is about the things I like. And those things might just disclose how old I am. Simply cause the list of my favourite videos mainly consist of old crap, but in a good way. All the videos in this list are so good, I didn't put them in a ranking. I just know they're all in my top five.

Millennium

This video is crazy. It hasn't got the best parts ever. But it has great skaters, great music and is made by Future Prospects. Loads of the filming is done in pitch black and with the cameras back in the day, that results is hardly watchable content to today's standards. But I love it.

 FOR - Future of Rollerblading

Another Joe Navran classic. This one came out before Millenium and has basically the same ingredients as Millenium. With a bold opening song by Dave Matthews Band, I know all the old skaters definitely know what video is playing when they hear this song come up. It has some great parts from Kevin Gillan and Dustin Latimer. I know when I had the VHS it was in my VCR 99% of the time. And if you have to Google VHS and VCR, remember I am old.

USD Team Video - Coup de Tat

This is by far the best team video ever. Or at least the one I remember the most vividly. When Coup De Tat came out it was, just amazing. The team is by far the best team any skating company ever had. Sure I love the Them team and most definitely love the Mesmer team, but this era USD team was too good. We are talking about Jon Julio, Brian Shima, Kevin Gillan, Josh Petty, Dustin Latimer, Champion Baumstimler. The soundtrack is is the perfect mix of 90s HipHop and some rock. And yes, this is another Joe Navran piece in this list.

 VideoGroove Magazine - VG3 or VG5

What would a list like this be without recognizing the huge influence Dave Paine had with his VideoGroove Magazine on this crazy little world we call rollerblading Right, there just had to be at least one of them in there. But which one, when there is so much gold in the VG history, like the Battle my Crew editions or VG8 and VG11. But in my mind there are two that are way more influential than those classics. VG3 is one of them. It was the introduction of Randy 'Roadhouse' Spizer. I mean, that's reason enough by itself. The second one was more difficult. Somehow I wanted VG6 in it, mainly because of DL and KG. When I watched VG5 again, I just knew this was the one. Just watch it. Have a look at the Erik Burke profile again and again. He was so far ahead of his time. Mono rolls, a casual toe roll while being interviewed, crazy wall rides it's all there with loads and loads of style.

VG3

VG5

There you have it. My list of favorite must see videos. Going through the list again I will do a follow up with favorite post 2000 videos too. What videos did I miss? Let me know!
